40's BLACK FAILLE 1940's DRESS S (D7)
I tried to take lots of pictures, but it was hard to photograph the detail on this black dress. It's pure black, but these pictures have been lightened to better show detail. Overall, it's fairly simple, and therein lies the beauty... it drapes so fluidly. Fabric is a synthetic (possibly rayon?) faille. Slim fitting bodice with 3/4 sleeves, and the skirt portion has 2 angled shutter pleats. Side unpainted metal zip closure, and covered buttons at the back of the neck. Early 1940's era... has a ring of 1930's to the fit, just with a more streamlined neck/shoulders than the 30's tended to favor. The model is a US 2 on top/4 on bottom, and this is a perfect fit. This measures 34/25.75/38, no stretch. 46 long shoulder to hem. Overall excellent condition, I see a just-over 1 tear in the left underarm that was repaired with a patch inside (last picture). You can see from the pictures that it really is not noticeable to others in normal wear.
